Newborn Deaths in PIMS Hospital Fire Are a Failure of State and Administration: Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri

Shiite News: Chairman of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri strongly condemned the tragic deaths of newborn babies in a fire at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad. He said that the loss of innocent lives in the flames was not merely an accident but raised serious questions about hospital safety arrangements and government priorities.

In his statement, he said that the failure to ensure the safety of newborns at one of the country’s largest public hospitals, funded through taxpayers’ money, represented a failure of the broader governance system. He expressed deep regret, alleging that the ruling authorities appeared more focused on protecting their political power and personal interests than on safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas strongly demanded an immediate, transparent and high-level investigation into the tragedy and the alleged delay in rescue operations. He called on the health minister and all other relevant officials to accept moral and administrative responsibility, resign immediately, and ensure that those responsible for negligence receive strict punishment.

He also demanded a comprehensive audit of fire-safety systems and emergency facilities at all government hospitals across the country. He said the nation needed practical accountability rather than formal condolence statements or routine committees.
