Arbaeen Is a Practical Model of the Hussaini Lifestyle, New Islamic Civilization, and Mahdist Society, Says Alireza Panahian

Shiite News: Renowned Iranian scholar and seminary and university professor Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Alireza Panahian said during a television program that the Arbaeen pilgrimage is far more than a religious journey or a mourning ceremony. It is a practical manifestation of the Hussaini way of life, the foundation of a new Islamic civilization, and a model for preparing society for the era of Imam al-Mahdi (AJTF).

He stated that if this pilgrimage is accepted by Allah, its positive impact will extend across the world because the massive gathering reflects the collective strength and unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Panahian explained that the immense rewards mentioned in Islamic traditions for every step taken by an Arbaeen pilgrim indicate that the pilgrimage is not merely an individual act of worship but a broad social movement. According to him, Arbaeen serves as a practical exercise for building a Mahdist society in which public responsibility, awareness, and active participation play a central role in establishing justice.

He further noted that during Arbaeen, millions of people voluntarily serve pilgrims without government orders or financial incentives. Motivated solely by sincerity, sacrifice, and love, volunteers in mawakib (service camps) consider spending their resources on others a privilege. He contrasted this with Western civilization, which he said relies primarily on laws, whereas an Islamic society establishes justice through altruism and self-sacrifice.

Panahian emphasized that officials and administrators in a future Mahdist government should embody the same sincerity, humility, and spirit of service demonstrated by Arbaeen volunteers. He added that if mosques functioned like Arbaeen service camps by becoming centers for community service and problem-solving, many social issues could be addressed through cooperation. Referring to the Qur’anic verse “«لِیَقُومَ النَّاسُ بِالْقِسْطِ»” (Qur’an 57:25), he said the mission of the prophets was to create a society in which people themselves actively establish justice, and Arbaeen stands as a vivid example of that collective consciousness.
