Araghchi Arrives in Baghdad for Talks on Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Baghdad for talks with senior Iraqi officials on bilateral relations and regional developments.

Heading a political delegation, Araghchi arrived in the Iraqi capital on Sunday and was welcomed by Iraqi Communications Minister Mustafa Sand.

According to Iraqi media reports, discussions are expected to cover the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Iraq’s debt payments to Iran, border security, and measures to prevent anti-Iran groups from operating on Iraqi territory.

The MOU, signed by Iran and the United States in June following a series of mediated negotiations, calls for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations and continued diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

Araghchi is also expected to coordinate with Iraqi authorities regarding arrangements for the funeral ceremonies of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Iraq’s holy shrines.

The Iranian foreign minister also met his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, to discuss the most important bilateral and regional issues.

Expanding ties with Iraq remains top priority: FM spox

In a post published on social media platform X shortly after the Iranian delegation arrived in Baghdad, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei wrote, “Greetings to great and brotherly Iraq.”

“Together with the foreign minister, we arrived in Baghdad and, after paying tribute to the commanders of victory, will meet and hold talks with our Iraqi brothers, including the president, prime minister, and foreign minister of Iraq,” he added.

Baghaei stressed that expanding ties with Iraq would remain a top priority for Tehran, citing the deep cultural and civilizational bonds linking the two countries.
