Any Rigging in GB Elections Could Harm National Stability and Democracy, Says Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas

Shiite News: Chairman of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, while speaking to journalists at the Skardu Press Club, said that the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan have entered an important phase where the full attention of the public is focused on a transparent, free, and fair electoral process.

He stated that the true spirit of democracy lies in respecting the public mandate. However, it is unfortunate that instead of promoting genuine democratic traditions in the country, complaints of influencing public opinion and distorting the mandate have repeatedly emerged. Similar concerns are now being felt in the electoral atmosphere of Gilgit-Baltistan, causing public anxiety regarding the protection of voting rights and election transparency.

He further said that in the political arena, the trend of changing loyalties based on personal interests rather than principles and ideology has become a serious challenge to democratic values. In such circumstances, the public looks with hope toward leadership that prioritizes public service, regional development, and public trust over personal gain.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also highlighted the issues faced by the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, the rights of youth, and the protection of civil liberties as important national matters. He expressed serious concern over the recent arrests of young people in the region and said that a strong voice would be raised in the Senate of Pakistan against the ظلم, oppression, and injustice faced by these youths to ensure the protection of their rights and the provision of justice.

He remarked that these young people are a symbol of Pakistan’s natural defense and national security; therefore, attempts to marginalize them or deprive them of their legitimate rights not only hurt the sentiments of the people of the region but are also against the national interest.

He added that instead of ignoring the problems and demands of the proud people of Gilgit-Baltistan, raising these issues at every effective forum and taking practical steps toward solutions is the need of the hour. Similarly, any rigging or lack of transparency in the elections could damage public trust and prove harmful to national stability and the democratic process.

He also stressed that protecting national unity, religious harmony, and social cohesion in the region has become more important than ever. Gilgit-Baltistan is a beautiful blend of different schools of thought and communities, where Shia, Sunni, Noorbakhshi, and Ismaili communities have lived together for centuries with mutual respect, tolerance, and brotherhood.

According to him, the current circumstances demand that all segments of society rise above differences, demonstrate unity and solidarity, speak with one voice for the protection of common interests, and foil every attempt aimed at dividing the unity of the region so that Gilgit-Baltistan can move forward more strongly on the path of development, peace, and stability.
