Kabul claims heavy Pakistani losses in border clashes
150 Pakistani soldiers had been killed and 200 others injured since Kabul launched its defensive operation against Pakistan, Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry spokesperson Inayatullah Kharazmi stated on Tuesday.
“During the retaliatory defensive operation, Rad Al-Zulm [Revenge for Injustice], 350 Pakistani soldiers were killed or injured, of whom 150 were killed and 200 wounded,” Kharazmi said, as quoted by the Afghan Voice Agency (AVA).
Afghan forces targeted and destroyed 13 Pakistani posts on the Durand Line overnight from Monday to Tuesday, which led to the deaths of four Pakistani soldiers and the wounding of several others. Afghan personnel also seized weapons and ammunition from the site, according to the spokesperson.
Kharazmi affirmed that 28 Afghan soldiers had also been killed and 48 others wounded in clashes. Islamabad, however, claims 435 Afghan soldiers have been killed and over 630 others wounded.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced that at least 42 civilians had been killed and 104, including children, injured in Afghanistan since the conflict began on February 26.
Background on the renewal of clashes
Pakistan carried out airstrikes on suspected militant hideouts in the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Paktika last week. Afghan authorities announced dozens of civilian casualties as a result of the attack.
On Thursday night, Afghanistan launched a military operation against Pakistani bases located along the Durand Line in response to the bombings.
The renewed clashes signal a complete collapse of the fragile ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Turkey following deadly clashes in October 2025, which killed 70 people on both sides.
