Pakistan and Iran Agree to Reopen Surab-Mand Border Trade Route After a Decade
Shiite News: Pakistan is set to restore the Surab-Mand trade route with Iran, which has been closed for the past ten years.
A Pakistani delegation, led by Deputy Commissioner Kech Major (Retd.) Bashir Ahmed Barigh, met with Iranian officials and reached an agreement to reopen the crossing during the first week of December.
Mand, a key tehsil of Kech district in Balochistan, has a population exceeding 50,000. Historically, the local population depended on cross-border trade, but the decade-long closure caused severe economic losses to residents and traders.
Once reopened, Pakistan will export rice, tobacco, and other crops to Iran, while Iran will supply Pakistan with oil, flour, and construction materials, boosting regional economic activity.
