Government is all set to send troops to aid Pro-Hadi Militia in Yemen on Saudi’s request within a fortnight, sources revealed.
Failure to get confidence of the parliament, the government calls upon a joint session in which top civil and military leadership met, discussing Yemen’s situation on Monday.
Saudi’s requirements are to be met by the government in letter and spirit within a week, said sources.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the session to include Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, PM’s senior aide Sartaj Aziz, Army chief General Raheel Sharif, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, chief of Naval Staff Air Marshal Sohail Aman, and the foreign Secretary.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement on the Yemen situation was agreed upon by the attendee, which he read at the joint session of Parliament earlier today.
The defence minister said, “Saudi Arabia has asked for combat planes, warships and soldiers,” not specifying where Saudi wanted them deployed.
“PM Nawaz is working hard to find a peaceful solution to the crisis, to ensure unity among Muslim countries,” the defence minister added.
Pakistan and Turkey share the same viewpoint when it comes down to the Yemen issue i.e. they stand by Saudi Arabia, the federal minister said.
He iterated PM’s view of the need of a peaceful solution clinging to Muslim Unity, yet emphasizing that irrespective all decisions by the Government will reflect the aspirations of the nation.
Sources revealed, “The government’s statements were drafted after a consensus and with support from the General Headquarters (GHQ).”
