1st time in decades, US Ambassador visit Imam Ali’s holy shrine in Najaf

For the first time in decades, a U.S. Ambassador visited the Imam Ali Holy Shrine in Iraq’s Holy City of Najaf on Thursday.

At a special press conference held jointly with Najaf Governor Adnan al-Zurfi at Imam Ali, Ambassador Stuart Jones remarked “The American people respect Iraq’s rich and diverse cultural and religious heritage, and the efforts of the Iraqi people to preserve this country’s precious historical sites.”

“Iraq and the United States share a tradition of ethnic and religious diversity. We appreciate the importance of acceptance and tolerance,” he concluded.
