SHC upholds death sentence to 3 in Allama Hassan Turabi murder case
SHC upholds death sentence to 3 in Allama Hassan Turabi murder case while approving appeals against three life term sentence.
Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected the appeal of three death sentence convicts in a case pertaining to the assassination of Allama Hassan Turabi.
Prominent Shia Islamic party leader Allama Turabi embraced martyrdom in a takfiri suicide bombing in 2006.
SHC upholds death sentence
An anti-terrorism court had handed death sentence to three murderers Mohammad Amin, Sultan Mehmood and Mohammad Rahim.
Three acquitted
However, the SHC bench granted appeals of the other three accused, Mohammad Akbar, Mohammad Ashraf and Rahimullah. The ATC had awarded them life term.
Moreover, the SHC also acquitted Rahimullah and the other two accused and ordered their release.
Meanwhile, soon after the ATC judgment, the takfiri terrorists had filed appeals against their convictions with the SHC.
Backgrounder
A takfiri suicide bomber blew himself up outside Allama Turabi’s house in Abbas Town on July 14, 2006. Allama and his young nephew embraced martyrdom due to that terror attack.
Factually speaking, other sects’ scholars also revere Allama Hassan Turabi due to his straightforward bold stance on Islamic issues.
Basically, he belonged Tehreek Jafaria Pakistan (TJP) which military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf banned unfairly. Because of that unjust, discriminatory and biased ban, TJP renamed itself as Islami Tehreek Pakistan.
Specially, his party represented Shia Muslims in Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of religious parties. Allama Hassan Turabi served as MMA Sindh chapter vice president.
