Outgoing Iranian Ambassador

President Dr Arif Alvi told him that key foreign policy priority of Pakistan remains close cooperative relations with all neighbouring countries including  Iran.

President Alvi hails Pak Iran ties

According to a statement from President House, Mr Alvi said that Pakistan and Iran had close bilateral relations.

He further cited that Pakistan Iran relations based on religion, culture, people-to-people contacts and commonality of interests.

Therefore, Pakistan greatly valued Iran’s consistent support on various regional issues, he said.

Pakistan remains grateful for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s strong support for the people of Kashmir, he shared.

While expressing his views, Honardoost emphasized that regional peace and stability remain high priority of brotherly countries Pakistan and Iran.

Notably, he expressed well wishes to the people and the government of Pakistan on behalf of the people and the government of Iran.

During the meeting he briefed the President on Iran’s improved ties with Pakistan in recent years.

He also stressed the need for continued consultations between Iran and Pakistan.

Moreover, the ambassador added that cooperation between Iran and Pakistan remains vital for the stability of south Asian region.

Pakistan Iran relations

Both countries enjoy cordial relations. Particularly, military to military ties too have seen improvement.

Notbly, Pakistan Iran military ties also strengthened during tenure of Mehdi Honardoost as ambassador.

Particularly exchange of visit showed improved ties as Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri visited Pakistan while Pakistan Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa also visited Iran.

Earlier this month, Pakistan’s Ambassador Riffat Masood also paid a farewell call on Iran FM Javad Zarif at the end of her tenure in Iran.

According to Media Department of the Iranian foreign ministry, they held ceremony to bid farewell to her.

However, ambassador Riffat also talked to Iranian official news agency on the occasion.

Particularly, she vowed that Pakistan would continue to work with Iran to bring an end to terrorism that affects our region.

Pakistan disagrees with US on Iran deal
While commenting on US unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal, she considered it very unfortunate that the United States pulled out of the JCPOA.

The envoy also lamented the re-imposition of cruel sanctions on Iran.

She referred that Pakistan was the first country to welcome the Iran nuclear deal/ JCPOA.

Because we believe that negotiations remain the only way to resolve any issue. Hence, we thought it very good step.

Furthermore, she noted it the international community’s big step especially the European Union and the United States. Because they were reaching out to Iran to lessen the burden of sanctions and signed the JCPOA.

Moreover, she said that Pakistan support any moves of any country around the world and the United Nations to resolve this issue.

She said Pakistan welcomes end to the sanctions against Iran as quickly as possible.
