Saudis hold fresh anti-regime protest
A fresh anti-regime protest has been staged in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province despite the ongoing crackdown on rallies.
Demonstrators in the Qatif region on Friday slammed the regime’s suppression of the Shia population.
Protesters also expressed solidarity with jailed clerics including Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.
Sheikh Nimr was attacked and arrested in Qatif in July 2012.
He has been charged with disturbing the country’s security, giving anti-regime speeches, insulting King Abdullah in Friday Prayers sermons, and defending the political prisoners.
A Saudi court recently sentenced Sheikh Nimr to death. However, the final ruling has been postponed.
There have been numerous demonstrations in Saudi Arabia’s oil-rich Eastern Province since 2011, with the protesters calling for political reform and an end to widespread discrimination.
Activists say there are over 30,000 political prisoners in Saudi Arabia.
