Ansarullah: ’US Support, Saudi Crimes Gave Rise to Terrorism in Yemen’

An interview with Sadeq abu-Shwareb, the member of Yemen’s Supreme Revolutionary Committee, with a focus on an array of cases including recent deployment of the US forces to southern Yemen and the propaganda behind the deployment, presenting the excuse of fighting Al-Qaeda in Yemen and increasing support for the Emirati front in Yemen’s south. There is has also questions about the reasons behind the coincidence of the new escalation in Yemen with the Yemeni peace negotiations in Kuwait.

Q: What are the main drives of the US decision to deploy military forces to Yemen? Were they sent to Yemen to battle Al-Qaeda in the country and reduce the terrorist group’s sway in southern Yemen as the Americans claim or there are other clandestine reasons for it?

Abu-Shwareb: First of all, we assert that the force deployment to Yemen is a prelude to a suicidal operation in the Yemeni sands, mountains and deserts. Second, the US administration wants to cover up its scandals in front of its own people after it emerged clearly that the US was the major supporter of the Saudi aggression against Yemen which has led to arrival of both Al-Qaeda and ISIS terror groups in Yemen’s Hadhramaut and Aden provinces. Third, the US wants to fight an ultimate war against Yemeni people’s revolution after its local and regional operatives, led by Saudi Arabia, have failed to make any advances in Yemen. The US wants to make the Yemeni people bow before it and make gains in Yemen but this is far from realization. Fourth, the US also wants to cover up the Saudi Arabian failures in the kingdom’s campaign in Yemen, but this has no use for them. We insist that whatever Saudi Arabia and its allies has failed to do in Yemen the US would not do in the country.

Q: Are there any reasons why the US has chosen this time to deploy forces to Yemen especially that it is coinciding with the Yemeni peace dialogue in Kuwait?

Abu-Shwareb: This US move is part of a new game to foil the peace talks between Yemeni sides in Yemen.

Q: Is there a massive and serious presence of Al-Qaeda terror group in southern Yemen as they portrait? What has urged US forces’ deployment to the Yemeni battlefields?

Abu-Shwareb: As I said, the US intervention in Yemen is not to confront Al-Qaeda; they have created Al-Qaeda and they have empowered it in some parts of Yemen’s southern and eastern provinces, and I repeat that the reason is to cover up the scandal of the US as it backed the Saudi regime militarily and logistically and also by intelligence assistance. Now, they want to say they fight the Al-Qaeda and ISIS. How is that believable while they are Al-Qaeda’s creators and its funders? Again I repeat that it is a matter of cover-up of their scandals. I need to highlight that Al-Qaeda and ISIS role in Yemen is to impede the success of the Yemeni revolution. Actually, it is an indirect US intervention in Yemen to stop the revolution and block the Yemenis’ efforts to decide on their own future.

Q: We see the US is backing the UAE’s forces in Yemen in what they call it an anti-Al-Qaeda battle. Is it a distribution of duties with Saudi Arabia or the Americans preferring the UAE over Saudi Arabia due to the tense relations between Washington and Riyadh?

Abu-Shwareb: First of all, we are embarrassed to talk about the UAE because it is a simple instrument. In fact, the UAE is a cheap means in the hands of the US, as is the Saudi Arabian regime. They make no decisions without permission from the Americans. When we talk about a conflict in the Emirati and Saudi interests it is actually an outcome of their alliance with the US.

Q: We see the US deploys forces to help the Emirati forces in Yemeni’s south against Al-Qaeda while it does not help the Saudi ground forces present in Yemen, why?

Abu-Shwareb: They want to see the Yemenis divided between the different countries. But we Yemenis know well that we have the Saudi regime as our enemy. The deployment of the American forces aims at misleading the Yemenis in terms of enemies and the objectives. They actually want to shed the Yemeni people’s bloods between the US, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. But this never takes place. We have a single enemy: the Al Saud, which is to blame for all that is happening in Yemen and the whole of the bloodshed in the country. They have to be tried as war criminals, this is what the Yemeni people would do. We ensure them that there would be fair trial.

Q: Concerning the intra-Yemeni peace negotiations in Kuwait, are there signals of good prospects in sight? Or there is no progress yet?

Abu-Shwareb: Since the beginning, we knew that the Kuwait negotiations would meet with failure, as the case was with Muscat I and II as well as Geneva I and II peace negotiations, because there are liars and they lie in their claims and their practices. They seek buying time in a bid to pave the way for a new battle as they did during the Geneva II conference to prepare the ground to launch an offensive against us, but they failed in their campaign. We assure that their armies and campaigns would fail once again, and they finally would bow before the Yemeni volition no matter how much they attempt.

The national delegation’s going to Kuwait was a preemptive move because they wanted to get an excuse by painting us as opposing the dialogue and as rebels. The national delegation has made huge concessions and they had to seize the opportunity, but unfortunately they are liars in words and in practice and we already know that. For example, concerning the ceasefire, they never stopped hostilities even for five minutes. There was no truce at all. If they stopped aggression for five minutes, we could say there was a ceasefire, even for five minutes. However, a truce never saw light, as the strikes kept going on. They scaled down the air raids for some time to prepare for a ground offensive. But we are on alert for any move. Yemen’s army, people and the popular committees are on the highest level of readiness. We are waiting for them and would beat them one more time. We would push them back to Kuwait II negotiations.
