“Israel is racist not only toward Palestinians but also toward Israelis:” said experts

“Israel is racist not only toward Palestinians but also toward Israelis, including Ethiopians and Mizrahi Jews. There are social problems inside Israel, where many people are struggling because of poverty.”

Ajamu Baraka, a human rights activist, in Colombia, and Richard Millet, a journalist and political commentator, in London expressed these views while talking to Press TV.
Press TV has interviewed these experts to discuss the repression of Ethiopian in Israel.

Baraka said that the Ethiopian community had been aware of racial treatments in Israel, but the new images of beating an Ethiopian man by Israeli police had sparked anger among the community and prompted them to come out to the streets of Tel Aviv.

Israel is racist not only toward Palestinians but also toward Israelis, including Ethiopians and Mizrahi Jews, he said.
He also said that, despite the fact that the Ethiopian individual was wearing the uniform of the Israeli military, he was perceived by racist Israeli policemen as part of a “sub-human sector of Israeli society.”

Comparing Israel to the United States, Baraka said what was connective between the US and the Israeli experience was that they are both settler colonies, and at the center of the “settler colonial project” were race, violence and lack of recognition of the right of the people whose land is being stolen.
Millet, for his part, said there were social problems inside Israel, where many people were struggling because of poverty, but the reason of the poverty was that Tel Aviv spent a lot of money for its own protection from ‘outside enemies.’
