Secretary arrested as person of interest in Samiul Haq murder probe: Police

Police have formally arrested personal secretary Ahmed Shah for his involvement in the murder of senior Deobandi cleric Samiul Haq, an influential head of JUI-S and former senator, who was assassinated by unidentified suspect(s) at his residence in Rawalpindi on November 2.

His personal secretary Ahmed Shah had disappeared mysteriously after his funeral. Despite repeated efforts, police had been unable to locate him.
Now, the secretary is being interrogated regarding the murder. He can prove to be a very important figure in this case, said a police official.

On December 5, however, an interim charge sheet of the case was submitted by the police to the airport judicial magistrate.
The interim charge sheet contains the statements of the victim’s son and a report on more than 12 individuals, the mobile phone data of the slain cleric a and a police investigation report.
However, the report does not identify a prime suspect.
