LHC rejects police stance on permission for azadari Majlis in houses
Shia Muslims don’t need to seek permission from police/ administration for holding Majlis-e-Aza (mourning congregation) in their houses, as per the order of Lahore High Court.
The LHC has ruled that police is bound to provide security to Majlis-e-Aza in Imam Bargah and in the char divari (buildings).
Shia Shehryan Pakistan’s convenor Syed Waqaraul Hasnain had filed a petition in the LHC through his lawyer Nasir Naqvi. The SHO Police Sadar Kamoke Saifullah Virk was respondent and Assistant Advocate General Punjab also appeared to represent Punjab government in the case.
Punjab government and police had imposed unconstitutional and illegal restrictions on Shia Muslims to discourage them from hosting azadari congregations even inside their houses and punishing them for Majlis in houses was an unjustifiable and biased policy that was being pursued even during the tenure of new PTI-led government.
