MWM Chief turns down veto power to PM in Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen secretary general Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari has rejected the Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 saying that G-B CM Hafeezur Rehman, a nominee of disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif is usurping the Constitutional rights of people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

“It is strange that Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 has granted veto power to Prime Minister in G-B affairs despite the fact that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan have no say in election of Prime Minister,” he said, lamenting that PM was also authorized to constitutional amendment by said Order.
He said this is double standard and two different systems in a country cannot go together. He said it is totally unfair and unjust that people of Gilgit-Baltistan are not given right to participate in elections to the Parliament of Pakistan.
“On the one hand, people of Gilgit-Baltistan are denied their fundamental and constitutional rights and on the other, laws are being imposed on them by unconstitutional means,” he said.
Allama Raja Nasir further said that on the one hand, people of FATA are being liberated from the British colonial laws and on the other people of Gilgit-Baltistan are denied integration in Pakistan despite the fact that people of G-B have been fluttering Pakistan’s flag for last 7 decades. He said people there need first-rate full citizenship of Pakistan.
MWM chief said it was an injustice that fate of people of Gilgit-Baltistan is decided by those who don’t represent them. He demanded withdrawal of Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018 and urged the power that be to respect the wishes of people of Gilgit-Baltistan and grant them full Constitutional status and rights.
