Shia Ulema Council backs PMLN’s candidate against terrorist Ludhianvi

yaqoobShia Ulema Council has announced its support to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s electoral candidate Shaikh Mohammad Akram against Ahmed Ludhianvi of the outlawed terrorist group Sipah-e-Sahaba/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi from NA-89 Jhang.

The decision was announced at a press conference outside Dera of Sanaullah Tirmizi where Maulana Shabbir Meesami and other leaders of the MWM were also present. The SUC also announced its support for Shaikh Yaqoob on PP-78.

However, the announcement to support Shaikh Yaqoob evoked an instant reaction from the Shiites of Jhang who staged a protest outside the dera of Sanaullah Tirmizi. The protestors reminded the SUC leaders that Shaikh Yaqoob himself was backed by outlawed Sipah-e-Sahaba as a candidate in the elections 2008. They said that terrorist Ludhianvi had published his photo with Shaikh Yaqub in the poster he published he released to favour the PMLQ candidate Shaikh Yaqoob.

Shia Muslims of Jhang expressed surprise over support to Shaikhs and opposed the decision of the SUC’s support. They also expressed surprise why the SUC backed the PMLN in Jhang notwithstanding its alliance with the PPP in rest of the country. They said that at least, the SUC should have asked the PPP candidate Tariq Gilani for withdrawal so that the Shia and moderate Sunnis’ votes could have been saved from division.
