IHC admonishes investigation officer in missing persons related contempt case.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court heard contempt of court case relating to case of missing persons.

Higher officials had not complied with the court’s orders which made the accused of contempt of court.

During the hearing, the IHC judge also expressed dismay and dissatisfaction over poor performance of relevant officials.

He further said that lack of recovery of missing persons amount to failure of state, besides incompetence of the government.

Meanwhile, he gave last warning the officials in the case of missing person Umer Abdullah.

The IHC also summoned the then secretaries for interior and defence as well as then IG police. The court ordered them to appear before the court.

SSP investigation Malik Naeem Iqbal, former investigation officer Gulfam Warraich and State Counsel Hasnain Haider Thaheem appeared before the court.

Meanwhile, during January 1st (2021) hearing, the Islamabad High Court imposed a fine of Rs10 million on the authorities for their failure to trace the whereabouts of a missing person.

In an unprecedented move, the court issued that order.

Moreover, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC declared that the government functionaries responsible for the protection of citizens.

He pointed out that despite several court directives they had failed to trace the whereabouts of missing person Ghulam Qadir during the last six years.

Particularly, he also included the secretaries of interior and defence, senior superintendent of police and station house officer of Golra police station among such officials.

He stated they had failed to discharge their lawful function.
