Pakistan Bar Council and SCBA officials concerned over targeting of Shia Muslims as unjustifiable.

Vice-Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council Abid Saqi and President, Supreme Court Bar Association, Syed Qalb-e-Hassan, have issued a statement in this regard on September 02, 2020.

They expressed their concern and dismay on the contents of Tweet of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran that went viral on social media.

Pakistan Bar Council and SCBA officials noted the PM’s tweet targeted thereby a section of Shia community.

They also lamented subsequent registration of cases against a number of persons belonging to Shia Muslim community and their arrest on accusations of blasphemy without any reason and justification.

Furthermore, they said Prime Minister of Pakistan being executive head of the Country, is supposed to and so expected of playing the role of a wise statesman.

They suggested the PM should have struck balance among different religious sects and communities rather than to cause discrimination against a particular community/sect.

PBC and SCBA senior leaders reminded the Prime Minister of Pakistan should be a symbol of unity for its citizens irrespective of their religious beliefs which in current situation of the Country, is badly needed and also is demand of the highest Office, he is holding.

On the other hand, independent analysts have been drawing attention of incessant violation of constitutionally-guaranteed rights of Shia Muslim citizens of Pakistan.

They said in theory, the state of Pakistan has outlawed, banned and proscribed takfiri terrorist outfits but in practice the State institutions themselves host and honour ringleaders of outlawed militant outfits.
