EU approach towards Iran Deal inappropriate: Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati

The Europe, despite announcing it will not abandon the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, apparently has failed to take an appropriate path by raising Iran’s missile issues, the head of Iran Assembly of Experts said on Tuesday.

‘Iran has been committed to all its commitments pertaining to the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),’ Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said, addressing the fifth meeting of the fifth round of the Assembly of Experts.

‘But the United States has never been committed to the international agreement,’ Ayatollah Jannati said.

The senior Iranian cleric went on to denounce Washington’s disloyalty, saying how it is possible to sit with the US at the table of negotiations.

‘The past record of US conduct is quite evident and it is obvious what Washington will do in the future,’ he said.

Referring to the EU package regarding the JCPOA, he stressed that the European offer has even prompted criticism on the side of Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

‘According to what the Leader said, the EU should demonstrate its good will,’ he said.

‘The Supreme Leader said nobody and no official has the right to engage in talks with them,’ Ayatollah Jannati said, referring to President Donald Trump and his administration officials.

He added that by offering to enter in talks with Tehran without any conditions, President Trump again is after deceiving the Iranian people.

He also called on President Hassan Rouhani and his team, who are expected to go to New York to participate in the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, to pay heed to what the Leader has prescribed.
