IRGC Claims Strait of Hormuz Closed, Reports Two Oil Tankers Caught Fire After Explosions

Shiite News: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that two oil tankers it described as “violating vessels” caught fire following explosions while attempting to pass through what it called an unsafe route in the southern Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC also announced what it described as the start of “disciplinary action” against the United States.

In its statement, the IRGC said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as long as what it described as “U.S. provocations” continue in the region. It further claimed that during this period, no oil, gas, or other commercial shipments would be allowed to leave the region through the waterway.

The statement added that a few hours earlier, two oil tankers attempting to transit the southern Strait of Hormuz via what it described as an unauthorized or unsafe route were hit by explosions and caught fire. According to the IRGC, emergency teams were working to evacuate the crews to safe locations.
