Iranian Interior Minister Seeks to Increase Pakistan-Iran Trade from $3 Billion to $10 Billion

Shiite News: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, has said that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran currently stands at approximately $3 billion and should be increased to $10 billion.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Momeni made the remarks upon his arrival in Islamabad on Monday. He said one of the primary objectives of his visit is to further strengthen relations between the two neighboring countries and review the implementation of joint agreements, particularly those reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June.

IRNA reported that Momeni also highlighted plans to expand cross-border trade by facilitating the daily movement of at least 2,000 trucks or cargo containers through the Iran-Pakistan border. The initiative is expected to improve trade logistics, strengthen economic cooperation, and enhance commercial connectivity between the two countries.

The Iranian minister emphasized that expanding bilateral trade and improving border infrastructure remain key priorities for both governments. Officials from Pakistan and Iran are expected to discuss practical measures to implement previously signed agreements, boost investment opportunities, and deepen cooperation in trade, transportation, border management, and regional connectivity.

Both countries share a long border and maintain close diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. Analysts believe increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion could significantly benefit regional commerce, create new business opportunities, and strengthen economic integration between Pakistan and Iran.
