Bahraini Opposition Condemns Regime’s Support for US Attack on Syria

A number of opposition groups in Bahrain condemned the Al Khalifa regime’s support for the US military’s missile attack on a Syrian airbase, saying the move proves strong ties between regimes in Manama and Tel Aviv.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Bahraini opposition groups, including Coalition Youth of 14 February Revolution, Al-Wafa’a Islamic Party and Islamic Action Society (Al Amal), denounced the US strike on the Syrian airfield near Homs as an example of “international organized crime” which targets anti-US nations.

The groups also decried the Al Khalifa regime’s earlier statement in support of the US attack and said it does not reflect the stance of the Bahraini people, who are against the strike.

The regime’s statement proves links between the Al Khalifa ruling family and the Zionist regime of Israel, the opposition groups stated.

The US military attacked the Syrian government’s Shayrat Airfield near Homs with 59 tomahawk missiles on Friday.

According to media reports, the Bahraini government has issued a statement in support of the attack.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.
