Shiite News: Provincial Minister of Agriculture and Parliamentary Leader Majlis Wahdat Muslimin Gilgit-Baltistan Mohammad Kazem Maysam held a detailed meeting with former Secretary Agriculture Khadim Hussain Saleem and current Program Coordinator ETI IFAD, an Economic Transformation Initiative for GB.

In the meeting, the program coordinator gave a detailed briefing on the ongoing agricultural activities in Gilgit-Baltistan.

On this occasion, the Minister of Agriculture said that the extension of IFAD program in all the districts is a great achievement of the provincial government and it cannot be fruitful until the schemes are not started on time.

He said that serious food security issues are coming in the future, the solution of which is to start cultivation on the available cultivatable lank.

All the three segments of IFAD including making agricultural land cultivable, irrigation projects, provision of connectivity bridges and roads as well as value addition can become the backbone of the economy here and agriculture can be promoted on a large scale.

He said that despite having the largest water reserves in GB, not providing water for irrigation is a matter of moment. It is a fact that the funds received from the federation for the development schemes of GB are insufficient, but if work is started on the schemes meeting the standards of IFAD as soon as possible, there will be an economic revolution and it can be called a green revolution.

He said that thousands of kanals of land are barren from Sadpara to Basho and from Shagharthang to Kavardu, which if settled, the fortunes of the landlords will change.

On this occasion, Khadim Hussain Salim said that every possible effort will be made to bring the barren land under cultivation in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said that due to public disputes, projects have been stopped at many places, which is the loss of the region. He said that Gilgit is determined to make this project a success with the support of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
