Pakistan Army special cell at GHQ working to resolve missing persons issue
Pakistan Army’s special assistance cell is working at its General Headquarters to facilitate the process regarding missing persons. However, Army made clear many are not in fact missing persons because they are believed to be part of anti-Pakistan networks abroad.
Defence of Human Rights chairperson Amina Masood Janjua met Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor yesterday.
There, DG ISPR told her that a special assistance cell was working at the GHQ. That cell is working to facilitate the process regarding missing persons.
The NGO – Defence of Human Rights also works on enforced disappearances. The ISPR chief briefed Mrs. Janjua on the efforts of the government and security forces for resolving the matter.
Most importantly, DG ISPR appealed to all the concerned they must not attribute all cases of enforced disappearances to state agencies.
Furthermore, he said armed forces sympathised with families of missing persons. However, he asserted that all cases of enforced disappearances could not be attributed to the state agencies while those with state are under legal process.
Maj Gen Ghafoor said some of those could have joined Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ranks in Afghanistan or in other conflict zones.
Moreover, he said, many might have lot lives fighting as part of TTP against the state of Pakistan.
Therefore, he emphasised that one should differentiate such individuals from missing persons.
