Syrian Army killed over 70 ISIS militants while storming east Damascus

The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a large-scale offensive in the east Damascus countryside this week, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s large stretch of bases near the mountainous town of Al-Dumayr.

While ISIS has seized Brigade 559 Base and several checkpoints, they have failed to capture the Tishreen Power Plant and the Al-Dumayr Military Airport, despite a number of attempts to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at these important installations.

According to a military source in Damascus City, ISIS has lost well over 70 combatants in the last 48 hours, resulting in another costly offensive to capture a large area of land that they will not likely hold.

ISIS chose to counter the government’s Palmyra (Tadmur) and Quraytayn offensives with an attack on the eastern slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains.

However, the terrorist group’s offensive is far too close to the Syrian capital, which means the government forces will not allow ISIS to linger in this area for very long.

The Syrian Arab Army has already sent reinforcements to this front in order to put an end to this offensive and recapture the sites that are under ISIS’ control.
