Decision on Yemen Was Made Without Taking Parliament into Confidence: Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas

Shiite News: Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and Vice Chairman of the Senate for Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aayin Pakistan, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, has raised the question: in which parliament was the “Mecca Accord” regarding Yemen presented? He reminded that in 2015, Parliament had decided by consensus that Pakistan would not become part of the Saudi Arabia-Yemen conflict.

He said that today, without convening a joint session of Parliament and without giving an in-camera briefing, a decision has been made; such decisions will have far-reaching effects on Pakistan’s national interest and national security. He said that the government does not consider itself answerable to anyone, therefore it is necessary that the government come to its senses.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that there should be a return to the Constitution and the law, Parliament should be made supreme, and all national decisions should be made there. He reminded political parties that just as through the Eighteenth Amendment, all parties together abolished Article 58-2B in merely two days and brought about reform, similarly now too the journey of return to the Constitution should be adopted.

Earlier, speaking on a point of order in the upper house on Friday, he had demanded a detailed briefing to the House on the delicate situation in the Middle East. He said that at present several regions are engulfed in war, a severe war is ongoing between Yemen and Saudi Arabia over Bab al-Mandab, and the energy issue will become more serious, therefore the government should take steps.

Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, pointing out the flour shortage in Punjab, the rising prices of LPG, and the increase in load-shedding despite the winter season, said that the people have fallen into the quagmire of inflation. It is noteworthy that a few days ago, in his address to the Senate, he had also said that Ansar Allah are not rebels and Pakistan should refrain from becoming part of this war.
