Only Those Who Accept Humiliation Endure Oppression: Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli Calls for a Life of Dignity and Perseverance
Shiite News: Grand Ayatollah Abdullah Jawadi Amoli, a prominent Shia religious authority, discussed the individual and social effects of monotheism during his weekly ethics lesson at the Grand Mosque of Qom, drawing on the teachings of Imam Ali (AS) in Nahj al-Balagha. He explained that a monotheist is not merely someone who verbally acknowledges the oneness of God; rather, the effects of monotheism should be reflected in a person’s actions and all aspects of life. He urged people to view every aspect of their lives through the principle of “There is no power or strength except through Allah.”
Ayatollah Jawadi Amoli emphasized the importance of acting upon knowledge and quoted Imam Ali (AS): “Do not turn your knowledge into ignorance, nor your certainty into doubt.” He advised seminary students and scholars not to waste their intellectual resources and to exercise care in their writing and speeches, as these reflect their scholarly character. Speaking about social relations, he stressed that people should treat those in need with dignity, citing the saying, “The needy person is a messenger of God.” He also advised people not to lose hope regarding lawful sustenance.

Emphasizing dignity and perseverance in the face of oppression, he quoted Imam Ali (AS): “The humiliated person does not resist oppression.” He urged people not to accept a position of humiliation and encouraged them to live with courage and dignity. At the conclusion of his remarks, he described the perseverance and sacrifices of the people as a manifestation of the nation’s dignity and offered special prayers for martyrs, the deceased and those present.
