Iraq Holds Talks to Lift U.S. Restrictions on Iranian Flights Amid Pilgrims’ Difficulties and Public Pressure

Shiite News: The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office has announced that Baghdad is holding direct talks with the United States to seek exemptions for some Iraqi airports from measures imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department on Iranian airlines.

According to the Iraqi government, the initiative aims to allow Iranian flights to resume on humanitarian grounds, particularly for medical treatment, education and religious visits, while also addressing other civilian travel needs. The government has emphasized the importance of peace in the region and called on all sides to pursue dialogue and negotiations, warning that the continuation of crises could further complicate the situation.

Earlier this week, several Iraqi airports suspended flights to and from Iran following the implementation of U.S. measures targeting Iranian airlines. The restrictions have affected travelers, including religious pilgrims, students and patients seeking medical treatment.
