“Pakistan Is Practicing an Umayyad-Style Islam,” Says Ayatollah Riyaz Najafi

Shiite News: President of Wifaq ul Madaris al-Shia Pakistan, Ayatollah Hafiz Syed Riyaz Hussain Najafi, said during his Friday sermon at Jamia-tul-Muntazir in Model Town, Lahore, that Pakistan has turned 79 years old, but fundamental issues such as education, peace, and the availability of essential commodities have still not been resolved.

He said traders are ruling the country, whose primary concern is to earn profits, while they have little regard for the economic condition of the public, employment, or the country’s broader welfare.

Ayatollah Najafi said Pakistan was established in the name of Islam and that both Sunni (Barelvi) and Shia Muslims contributed to its creation, while, according to his statement, a majority of Deobandis opposed the establishment of Pakistan.

He stressed that every citizen should fulfill their responsibilities. However, he lamented that there is very little culture of working and that organizations are failing to fulfill their responsibilities.

Referring to the distribution of Bait-ul-Mal (public treasury), he said that equality prevailed during the eras of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS), and Hazrat Abu Bakr. He added that the Umayyads introduced a system of unequal distribution, and lamented that an “Umayyad-style Islam” is also being practiced in Pakistan.
