More Than 2 Million Pilgrims Cross Mehran Border into Iraq for Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (AS)

Shiite News: Since the beginning of the month of Safar, nearly 2 million pilgrims have entered Iraq through the Mehran border crossing to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussain (AS).

According to Mohammad Sharafi, a senior commander of Iran’s police, around 2.4 million people registered for the Arbaeen pilgrimage. Of these, more than 2 million pilgrims have safely traveled from Iran to Iraq, while approximately 500,000 pilgrims have already returned to Iran.

Although several border crossings connect Iran and Iraq, the Mehran border is regarded as the busiest and most important route because of its proximity to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala.

Sharafi said that despite the movement of more than 2 million pilgrims, no major security incidents had been reported. He added that the movement of Arbaeen pilgrims has remained organized and peaceful, with security agencies continuing to facilitate and protect visitors throughout the pilgrimage.
