Rajah Nasir Abbas Jafri Declares: Restrictions on Azadari Violate the Constitution; Arbaeen Processions Will Be Held Regardless

Shiite News: Chairman of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Pakistan and Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, addressed a press conference alongside Allama Ahmad Iqbal Rizvi, Syed Nasir Abbas Shirazi, and other religious scholars. He stated that the mourning rituals (Azadari) of Imam Hussain (AS) are a constitutional and legal right, and no authority has the power to prevent them.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri said that with the beginning of Muharram every year, restrictions are imposed on mourners, while other public events continue without interruption. He alleged that false FIRs are registered against mourners and that the sanctity of private homes is violated during raids. He said that Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) strongly condemns such actions.

He also expressed serious concerns over certain provisions of the PECA Act, stating that any restrictions on freedom of expression are unacceptable.

Speaking about Arbaeen (Chehlum), he made it clear that mourners will continue the traditional practice of walking to participate in Arbaeen processions and will not bow to pressure or intimidation. He urged the federal and Punjab law ministers to immediately end unnecessary restrictions and harassment of mourners.

Expressing concern over the closure of the Pakistan-Iran border for more than two years, he said that thousands of pilgrims have been deprived of visiting holy shrines and called on the government to resolve the issue without delay.

He also announced that he would write to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging Pakistan to mediate between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Referring to former U.S. President Donald Trump, he claimed that Trump is not trustworthy, that “his arrogance has been humbled,” and that the “Greater Israel” project has failed.
