Allama Maqsood Ali Domki Calls for Local Ownership of Provincial Resources

Shiite News: Senior leader of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Pakistan, Allama Maqsood Ali Domki, has called for the recognition of the people’s sovereignty over provincial resources, saying that local communities should have the primary and legal right to benefit from the natural wealth of their respective provinces.

In a statement, Domki said that the natural resources, minerals, coastal assets, and other provincial resources of Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and every province should primarily belong to the people living in those regions. He emphasized that, under the Constitution of Pakistan, provincial autonomy and the rights of local populations over their resources must be recognized without conditions.

He further stated that provincial resources should be directed toward the welfare and development of local communities. According to Domki, a significant share of the revenue and royalties generated from mineral extraction and development projects should be spent directly on education, healthcare, employment opportunities, public welfare, and infrastructure in the areas where those resources originate.

He added that it is unjust for regions rich in gold, copper, gas, and other natural resources to remain deprived of basic facilities. “It is unfair that the land producing gold, copper, and gas still has children who lack access to schools and clean drinking water,” he said.

Domki stressed that equitable distribution of resource revenues would help reduce poverty, improve living standards, and ensure sustainable development across Pakistan’s resource-rich provinces.
