US–Iran Ceasefire: Government Decides to Observe Friday as a Day of Thanksgiving

Islamabad: The government has decided to observe the upcoming Friday as a Day of Thanksgiving following the US–Iran ceasefire.

A federal cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the cabinet decided to mark Friday as a Day of Thanksgiving in recognition of the successful ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which it credited to Pakistan’s efforts.

Upon the Prime Minister’s arrival, cabinet members paid tribute to him and welcomed him with a standing ovation and applause.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed the cabinet members on Pakistan’s role regarding the US–Iran ceasefire.

The Prime Minister highlighted the important role played in mediation between the United States and Iran by Field Marshal Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. During the session, appreciation was expressed for the Field Marshal’s efforts.

The Prime Minister said that the entire nation deserves congratulations, as Pakistan’s prestige has risen globally. He praised the efforts of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, stating that Asim Munir stayed awake for many nights and maintained contacts with US leadership, holding discussions with both American and Iranian leaders. He added that in his entire career, he had not seen such coordination between political and military leadership. He paid tribute to Asim Munir, while also acknowledging the tireless work of Ishaq Dar.

He further stated that efforts would be made to turn the temporary ceasefire into a permanent one, emphasizing that Pakistan is playing a key role in establishing peace and aims to save the region and the world from the flames of war.

The Prime Minister also said that Pakistan has the honor of hosting US–Iran negotiations, adding that God has elevated Pakistan’s stature. He appreciated the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He noted that both political and military leadership were united in sincerity and purpose, and would remain so. He added that despite all efforts, success would not have been possible without God’s will. He said the flames of war have been extinguished for two weeks and, God willing, they will be extinguished permanently.

He remarked that attempts were made during the conflict to create divisions among Muslims by inciting sectarian differences, along with internal and external conspiracies. He expressed gratitude to the Iranian and American leadership for recognizing Pakistan’s sincerity, and also thanked Saudi Arabia, China, and Gulf countries for their support, calling Pakistan and Saudi Arabia “two brothers and one family.”

The Prime Minister said that this entire episode is a story that, if written as a book, would serve as a great lesson for future generations. He emphasized that when one relies on God, divine help follows in such ways.

He further stated that, on his invitation, delegations from the United States and Iran are arriving in Pakistan tomorrow. He added that controlling soaring inflation was also a significant achievement. He thanked the President for his support and guidance, and also expressed gratitude to his leader, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, for his continuous guidance on economic and political challenges throughout his career.
