The Iraqi government declares three days of national mourning for the martyrdom of Mr. Khamenei

The Iraqi government announced on Sunday a three-day period of public mourning for the martyrdom of Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei
The official spokesman for the government, Bassem Al-Awadi, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “With great sadness and sorrow, we offer our condolences to the honorable Iranian people and the entire Islamic nation on the martyrdom of the scholar and mujahid, the Supreme Leader, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei, whom we consider to be among the first of the family of the Prophet, as a result of a blatant aggression and a reprehensible act that violates all human and moral norms, and in clear violation of international laws and conventions.”

He added, “With the passing of the martyred Sayyid, His Eminence has crowned his journey, which served the Iranian people, with the crown of martyrdom and loyalty to principles, defending his nation against injustice and tyranny, seeking the path of truth, and striving to serve the causes of the Islamic nation and humanity in general.”

He stressed that “Iraq, in this context, renews its serious call for an immediate and unconditional cessation of military operations and actions that are taking the region to unprecedented levels of violence, fueling conflict, and undermining international peace and security.”

He noted that “the Iraqi government has declared three days of public mourning throughout Iraq.
