The Coordination Framework called on its members of parliament Wednesday to be free in their choice of presidential candidate, while also affirming its categorical rejection of the use of Iraqi territory to attack any country.
The Coordination Framework’s media office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “the Coordination Framework held its 262nd regular meeting at Mr. Hakim’s office Wednesday evening to follow up on the latest developments on the national and regional scenes and discuss the current situation.” The statement added that “the Coordination Framework reiterated the importance of respecting and adhering to constitutional timelines as stipulated by the Iraqi Constitution, calling for a swift resolution to the presidential election issue.”
The Coordination Framework, according to the statement, stressed the importance of officials in the Kurdistan Region paying attention to the proposals presented by the Framework’s delegation during its recent visit to the region, in order to expedite consensus and end the current deadlock. It also called on its representatives to be free in their choices should a single candidate for the presidency not be agreed upon. The Framework
emphasized that the continued paralysis of state institutions is incompatible with the magnitude of the political, economic, and security challenges facing the country.
Regarding the regional situation, the Coordination Framework affirmed its categorical rejection of the use of Iraqi territory to attack any country, in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution. It also stressed its call for security forces to take all necessary precautions and exercise maximum restraint in the face of any provocations, so as not to provide any pretext that could be exploited to target Iraq or destabilize it.
