310 killed in crush during Hajj in Mecca

At least 310 people are killed and nearly 450 others are injured in a crush during Hajj pilgrimage rituals outside Mecca, Saudi media say.

Saudi Arabia’s al-Ekhbariya television channel reported the casualty figures on Thursday, citing civil defense officials.

Over 220 ambulances and 4,000 rescue workers have reportedly been sent to the location.

“Work is underway to separate large groups of people and direct pilgrims to alternative routes,” the Saudi Civil Defense said.

The incident took place in Mina as people were participating in the symbolic stoning of Satan.
