Al-Sudani Meets U.S. State Department Delegation
Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Wednesday, a delegation from the U.S. State Department led by Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs John Bass and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf. The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to enhance and develop them.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA):Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed Iraq’s role in engaging with regional and international partners to consult on the Syrian situation and stressed the importance of respecting the Syrian people’s will in determining their future.
The discussion emphasized joint coordination regarding the situation in Syria and the importance of a transitional phase that includes all parties, safeguarding the rights of all components to establish stability within Syria.
Mr. Bass reiterated that Iraq is a key partner in the region, emphasizing the importance of consulting with Iraq on developments in the region. He also reaffirmed the International Coalition’s commitment to protecting Iraq’s security and sovereignty from any external threats.
