A member of the Hamas political bureau says the elections should be held in Bait-ul-Muqaddas and that the Israeli regime has no right to interfere in this matter.

Khalil al-Hayeh, a member of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas, said that the movement was taking firm steps to participate in the country’s elections.

In an interview with Al-Quds newspaper, al-Hayeh said that Hamas was ready to present a single national list that included the widest range of Palestinians.

He stated that the national interest required the formation of a unity government after the elections; a government in which all Palestinian groups were present and perform their duties in the West Bank, including Bait-ul-Muqaddas.

“We call for holding elections to strengthen internal unity and restore our national institutions and rebuild the Palestinian political system through democracy,” the Hamas official said.

Regarding the elections in Bait-ul-Muqaddas, al-Hayeh said that this was “a national position and a position of the Hamas movement, and it is a red line that it cannot be crossed.”

“If the Zionist regime dares to intervene on this issue, we, as the Palestinian people, must turn the elections into a real political war against Israel,” he stressed.

“We are a nation that wants its right to vote,” al-Hayeh concluded.
