How the Nigerian Police Tortured Us in Abuja – Sister Hawwa’u
Citizen Hawwa’u is a member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky. She was arrested by the Nigerian police last year while she participated in a #FreeZakzaky protest in Abuja. She spent more than one year in the dilapidated Suleja prison before been granted bail by a court last week.
Sister Hawwa’u was warmly welcomed by the Movement community in Suleja town of Niger state. And she recounted the brutal torture they suffered in the hands of elite police anti-robbery squad (SARS) in Abuja. SARS is the most brutal and ruthless police squad in Nigeria with mountain loads of human rights violation. She said they suffered various human rights violation for more than five months before the court ordered that they should be transferred to prison.
She said while under SARS police detention, they spent seventeen (17) Days without been allowed to pray the five (5) daily prayers nor take bath. And no food was given to them for 3 days. Some of them with bullet wounds were not taken to hospital for treatment for days.
She concluded that she remain grateful to God for this trial and persecution because of her faith. She said she is ever ready to make additional sacrifice on the path of Sheikh Zakzaky including sacrificing her life.
Sister Hawwa’u is one of the 6 sisters granted bail by the court last week. There are 54 male members of the Movement who are still in that dilapidated Suleja prison that are facing the same fraudulent, fabricated and trump-up charges with them.
We will NEVER forget,
We will NEVER forgive,
We will overcome!
