Iraq Defense Ministry stressed that the US withdrawal from several military bases in the country would not have an impact on Iraqi security and operations against Daesh terrorist group.

Referring to the withdrawal of the US troops from some of their bases in Iraq, Iraqi Defense Ministry Spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul said on Wednesday the Iraqi army has secured the country and expelled Daesh terrorists from the country, and will fight with the remaining elements.

Iraq has great power and readiness to chase the terrorist elements of Daesh, the defense minister said.

Meanwhile, in another development, Iraqi security forces, in cooperation with Popular Mobilization Unit (PMU) forces, repulsed an attack by the Daesh terrorist group on the Diyalah province, in which four terrorists were killed.

Following the US assassinated Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis on Iraqi soil, the expulsion of US troops from Iraq has become one of the most important demands of large numbers of Iraqi people and groups and consequently, the Iraqi parliament also approved the bill to expel the US troops.

Many Iraqi figures and parliamentary factions have been long demanding the withdrawal of US troops from the country, specifically following a series of unclaimed airstrikes on PMF forces.
