Bahrain’s Shiite cleric signs of torture after solitary confinement
Jailed Bahrain’s Shiite cleric Sheikh Isa Al-Qaffas reportedly bears visible signs of torture after spending several days in solitary confinement.
According to the London-based Bahrain Alyoum news agency, the torture is most evident on the cleric’s shoulders and back.
Sheikh Al-Qaffas was thrown into solitary after daring to stand up to a prison guard who was taunting inmates for mourning Ali Al-Arab and Ahmed Al-Malali.
The pair was executed last week despite international calls for clemency and widespread allegations that their convictions were the result of confessions obtained through torture.
