Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from Iraq Is a Historic Achievement and National Victory, Says Mahdi Al-Mashat

Shiite News: Mahdi al-Mashat, head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, has congratulated the Iraqi government and people on the withdrawal of U.S. and other foreign forces from Iraqi territory. He described the development as a “historic achievement” and “national victory,” attributing it to what he called the unprecedented resistance of the Iraqi people.

Referring to what he described as more than two decades of U.S. occupation and control of Iraq, al-Mashat said the development was the result of the resistance, sacrifices and prolonged struggle of the Iraqi people and fighters. He said the withdrawal further strengthens what he described as the Iraqi people’s fundamental right to full sovereignty and independence.

In his message, the Yemeni leader said that the sacrifices made by Iraqis in their pursuit of freedom and dignity were highly valued. He also paid tribute to what he described as the country’s martyrs, wounded and fighters, praising their sacrifices and efforts.

It was reported that the U.S. Department of Defense officially announced the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq on Wednesday. The development has been described by supporters of the resistance front as a major victory and a step toward ending U.S. influence in the region.
