Yemen Claims Saudi F-15 Fighter Jet Shot Down Over Marib, Yemeni Military Says

Shiite News: Yemeni and international media reported that a Saudi F-15 fighter jet was targeted and reportedly shot down in the airspace over Yemen’s Marib Province, after which the aircraft crashed and was destroyed.

Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, officially claimed that a Saudi F-15 had been brought down. In a statement, he said Saudi aircraft had carried out attacks in Yemen and that Yemeni air defenses responded by targeting the Saudi F-15 over Marib.

Saree also reiterated that reports alleging that Yemeni forces had targeted Mecca were, according to him, misleading and unfounded. He said Yemen’s stated military objectives are Saudi military installations and oil facilities.

The claim that the F-15 was shot down was reported by multiple outlets on September 16, 2026, but Saudi authorities had not independently confirmed the loss at the time of reporting. Reuters also described the incident as a Houthi claim and noted that no independent evidence had been provided.
