War, not peace; US priority in Yemen: Yemeni official

A member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council stressed that the United States sought to continue the war in the country.

“The option of war in Yemen is a priority for the United States, but the US pretends it is peaceful,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi said.

He added that imposing sanctions under the pretext of establishing peace was an obstacle and had no benefit.

The Yemeni official noted that targeting the private sector after attacking the central bank and factories and keeping the Yemeni people hungry through sanctions were examples of a war crime.

Al-Houthi underscored that the US’ goal of these targeted plans was to destroy the economy.

Saudi Arabia, with the support of the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries, invaded Yemen in March 2015. The outbreak of war by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen has so far killed tens of thousands and displaced millions of Yemenis.

The Saudi military aggression has also left the impoverished country of Yemen severely short of food and medicine.

The Saudi regime and its allies have so far failed to achieve their goals in the war against Yemenis.
