Abu Dhabi rejects Riyadh demands on Yemen’s Aden

UAE has rejected Saudi demands on southern Yemen, including transferring the security forces’ headquarters in Aden to Saudi-back forces, a report said.

As violent power struggle in Aden, in south Yemen, has opened a gaping wound in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates’, meeting in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to heal the rift, reached a dead-end.

Jeddah hosted a meeting to resolve the crisis between UAE-backed separatists and the Saudi-backed forces, Press reported.

Saudi Arabia called on the UAE-backed forces to cede control of military bases as well as government and civilian buildings in Aden to forces loyal to Saudi-allied ex-Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The Southern Transitional Council (STC), backed by Abu Dhabi, rejected Saudi demands according to this report.

In August, the militias overran Aden and other southern cities, driving out Hadi’s forces in bloody fighting.

As a stunning escalation in the turmoil, last week, Emirati warplanes pounded the positions of pro-Hadi forces in support of southern separatists, killing and injuring more than 300 troops in Aden and nearby Abyan province.
