Michigan Mosque Imam Delivers Important Message Against Islamophobia

Shiite News: Sohail Choudhry, the imam who leads congregational and Friday prayers at the East Lansing Mosque in the U.S. state of Michigan, has expressed concern over growing anti-Muslim propaganda in the area and urged Muslims to stand united in confronting it.

He said Muslims in the area are directly and practically experiencing Islamophobia, with some individuals openly chanting slogans against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and using offensive language.

According to Choudhry, some social media users in western Michigan have referred to Muslims with derogatory labels such as “cancer” and “troublemakers.” He said confronting Islamophobia is important for people from all communities and warned that remaining silent could allow the situation to become more serious.

Nazita Lajevardi, a University of Michigan professor who researches Islamophobia and antisemitism, also described the increase in anti-Muslim prejudice as part of a broader trend and cited ongoing conflicts in the Middle East as one contributing factor.
