UK maritime authority says crew rescued from ship after Houthi attack

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a British navy-run security agency, says the crew of the MV Tutor has been evacuated by the military.

The Greek-owned, Liberian-flagged vessel had been taking on water after a drone attack. The UKMTO said the ship “has been abandoned and is drifting” off the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr had earlier pledged to help the Filipino sailors on board.

The Yemen-based Houthis are carrying out attacks on commercial vessels around the Red Sea, a key shipping route, in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

In response, several Western countries launched a maritime security coalition in the waterway late last year.
