Brazilian state names medal after late Palestinian freedom fighter

The Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte recently named one of the medals it awards after the late Palestinian freedom fighter Hanna Safieh.

During a conference on migration, refuge and statelessness, Governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra, signed a decree naming a commendation medal after Safieh in recognition of his role in promoting the rights of refugees and stateless persons.

Among those honored with Hanna Safieh Medal are Safieh himself and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
