Terrorist blast kills at least two people in Somali capital

At least two people have been killed and several others wounded in a terrorist attack in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

The deadly attack occurred late afternoon on Thursday when a terrorist detonated an explosive device inside a cafe in Mogadishu, police and witnesses said.

They said the bomber targeted the crowded café, situated in northern parts of the capital, frequented by members of the Somali security forces.

The blast killed two members of the security forces and wounded five people, said Mohamed Ali, a traffic policeman who was at the scene.

According to an eyewitness, pieces of metal and destroyed plastic seats were strewn around the whole area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the deadly attack, but such assaults bear the hallmark of those carried out by the al-Shabab terrorist group, which is an ally of the al-Qaeda terror organization.

The al-Shabab group has been fighting Somalia’s central government for more than a decade, in an attempt to establish its own rule in the African nation.

The militants frequently carry out gun and bomb attacks against both civilian and military targets, including busy traffic intersections, hotels, and military bases.
